Lil Wayne Sued While Behind Bars!

Posted by Jay On April - 23 - 2010

Over the years, Weezy has made a habit of racking up lawsuits. He’s been sued by Karma-Ann Swanepoel for sampling “Once” on “I Feel Like Dying,” and Darius “Deezle” Harrison for royalties on “Mrs. Officer”. He’s been sued over his use of the Rolling Stones song “Play With Fire”. He’s been sued by a New York Concert promoter for $1.3 million after managing to miss three concerts… The list goes on!

———————————————————————————————————————-

His most recent dispute comes at a tough time for the rapper as he is incarcerated in New York’s Rikers Island Prison. This latest court case comes from producer Jim Jonsin over royalties to Wayne’s hit song “Lollipop”. Jonsin claims that he has yet to receive so much as a cent for his work on one of Lil Wayne’s most popular singles.

According to an article from the New York Post, Jonsin is suing Weezy for $500,000. This isn’t the first time the two have been in a dispute. Wayne previously blamed Jonsin for not solidifying the right to use a sample which incited the lawsuit from Karma-Ann Swanepoel. This cannot be welcome news for good ol’ Weezy but we would expect nothing less!

Curtis Young, son of Aftermath CEO Dr. Dre is set to release his official debut album ‘Product of my DNA’.

Young, AKA ‘Hood Surgeon’, met his father when he was 21 and was inspired. He explained how meeting his father completely changed his perspective and left him with the desire to “take over the legacy”.

In his own words he explains; “My world became complete when I finally met my father at the age of 21. I am extremely grateful for my father paving the road for me and many other artists. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to take over a legacy. As a producer, my father has set extremely high standards to existing and upcoming producers all over the globe but my hard and dedicated work will show everyone that I deserve the name Young,”

Young aims to set a new standard for artists coming out of Southern California and believes that he represents a change in the genre.

“People can expect a new trendy look from me. I represent a new era of positive feel good music for the West Coast. I am a new generation of Left Coast artists who can not only rap but produce as well. In the future, my company Young Entertainment Inc, will set high standards and create another element for the Hip Hop world so get familiar!”

‘Product of My DNA’ is set to drop this summer.

Game Confirms Release Date for “R.E.D” Album

Posted by Jay On April - 11 - 2010

The “R.E.D.” album was originally expected to release as early as February this year but has been delayed twice. The album is Game’s fourth major studio project and sees him reunite with Aftermath Records. The album is now confirmed to drop on June 15th this year with production from some of the major players including Dr. Dre and Pharrell.

Game had said that he was ready to retire after his “LAX” album in 2008 but decided to release another album titled “D.O.C” (Diary of Compton) with the help from original members of N.W.A. He decided not to release when it became apparent it wouldn’t be possible to get the input he needed from Dre, Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg.

In a previous interview Game explained the reason for the title “R.E.D”: “[What I was working on], the fans just started calling it R.E.D. for some reason, I don’t even know. I had [previously] said that I would re-dedicate myself to Hip Hop, and they just took that and was like R.E.D. – rededicated. I went along with it, man.”

The album looks to be a promising project, with backing from the Cool & Dre single “Shake” and production from some of the best in the industry.

Dr. Dre Pushes Forward the Release of Detox

Posted by Jay On April - 6 - 2010

Dre has now said that he plans to release his solo album Detox this year. He has also confirmed that the new single Under Pressure, featuring none other than Jay-Z will likely be released this month.

Dre has now said that he plans to release his solo album “Detox” this year. He has also confirmed that the new single “Under Pressure”, featuring none other than Jay-Z will likely be released this month. In an interview with CNBC he dropped the news stating that: “Yes, hopefully we’ll be releasing ['Under Pressure'] in the next two weeks or so.” He then went on to talk about the long awaited solo album: “I’m definitely gonna be putting the album out this year. Finally, you know, and I think everybody is gonna be happy with it. That’s it right now. I’m just trying to finish this record, finally get it done, get it out and start promoting it.”

Dre explained that the continued delay to the album was mainly due to the considerable amount of studio time he has dedicated to other artists. It would be great to hear the album drop this year but I think that by now, everyone is taking the news with a pinch of salt! The album has had so many setbacks that it has become more myth than reality. Former Aftermath Records Stat Quo recently commented on the release of “Detox” and gave his thoughts on why the album has taken so long: “If you want my opinion on it, I think he wants to be confident in what he has to put out as an ensemble piece. Dre is hip-hop in a sense, so hip-hop needs him to put out a great album, ’cause if he doesn’t, it affects all of us — not just what he does, but the whole culture…Dre is just all around a better artist, a better person.”

We’ll continue to monitor this story and give you an update as soon as we know more but for now, let us take comfort knowing that the new single with Jay-Z is confirmed and will be with us soon!

Hip Hop has become one of the most recognized and influential genres of modern pop culture, reaching massive fan bases and seeping its way into everyday life. Although gaining such success and acclaim, it hasn’t managed to pull in the same crowds as other genres in the live scene. Jay-Z is one act that continues to push the boundaries and reach new levels of success.

In a recent survey by Billboard Magazine that compiled the top 35 grossing shows of this year, The Blueprint 3 tour has made the list 8 times, getting to number 10 for one of his concerts, grossing $1,322,831.

Jay has always been a great live artist and has a very natural stage presence and his 360-deal with promoting giant Live Nation has played a big part in his live show success. You also have to give credit to his entire team who are tirelessly working on making his shows bigger and better.
