Rap star Nas has been ordered to pay $51,000 a month in child and spouse support to his ex wife Kelis, as ordered by Los Angeles supreme court Judge David . S . Cunningham on December 9th .
The ruling was made after two days of testimony from both Nas and his ex- wife Kelis.
Although confirming that she has signed a $175,000 recording contract with Interscope records, her attorneys have claimed that after management fees the singer is left with only 50,000. Upon cross examination Kelis claimed that her career was no where near the level it was during her earlier form which saw her hit the top of the charts with ‘Milkshake’ in 2003, and indicating that her latest release was dropped subtly on twitter.
Furthermore Kelis’ incme was found to be hard to prove as she has not filed an income tax form in a number of years.
In Nas’ statement it brought to light that nas currently owes his manager somewhere in the region of $700,000 and a further $2.5 Million in back taxes to the IRS.
However with the new charges put in place Nas does not have to continue to pay the $13,000 per month mortgage on the couples Los Angeles home of which Kelis currently occupies.
Before the hearing it was reported that Nas was paying around $40,000 a month in a temporary support system.
There has reportedly been no word from either of the pair since the ruling.
