Like a well kept secret the UK underground Hip Hop scene knows about Blaktrix. Acclaimed for his flow and off kilter techniques he seems eventually destined to be recognised as one of the leading Hip Hop artists in the country… His first significant release ‘Indian Rope Trick’ featuring Humurak D Gritty & DJ Moneyshot won the Ras Kwame’s ‘Homegrown Track Of The Week’ for three consecutive weeks. The Bradford born artist, who now spends his time between Manchester and Cardiff, went on to feature on the Ras Kwame’s Homegrown Collection 2006 CD (Hip-Hop Connection Magazine). DJ Magazine described his ‘Trust’ EP ‘a classic’. Blues ‘n’ Soul Magazine acclaimed the next release from Blaktrix ‘What Shall BE’ EP as ‘proof not all best British hiphop comes out of London.’

Blaktrix spent a short stint on the infamous SFDB Label and featured on the Secondson and his Orchestra LP along with artists such as Taskforce, Lewis Parker and Jehst. He has supported Skinnyman and Goldie Lookin Chain in venues across the country such as BristolAcademy and has performed live on BBC radio. ‘Blix James Bitch’ is played considerably on C4’s Extreme Sports. Blaktrix was also featured on ‘Unsigned’ on HTV Wales. When times were hard Rola from the Numskullz, Monky and Stagga (now renowned dubstep producers) from Optimas Prime provided him with the space and studio to lay down some of his heaviest material. Most of this only ever came out on Vinyl some of it never at all…

BLAKTRIX releases in CD format a limited edition run of unreleased or previously exclusive to vinyl tracks in preparation for the highly anticipated album ‘SOME PEOPLE NEVER GO CRAZY’ out November 2010. ‘THE HOUDINI FOOTPRINTS OF SOME PEOPLE NEVER GO CRAZY’ features PLO, Mudmowth, Stagga, Rola, Monky, Junior Disprol & Sir Beans OBE and is on SKREEMER RECORDS.

After our recent detailing of Cyrus Malachi’s latest offerings and our recent interview with the man himself, we thought the best thing we could do was to review ”The Isis Papers’ ourselves and see what was what. Read on for our full track by track review …….

1. Intro (prod Endemic) – The Isis Papers mixtape begins with a High tempo offering , incorporating some impressive scratching and sample dropping sequences, which really sets up the tempo for the rest of the mixtape.

2. Praying mantis – Sees a high energy start, which progresses into a metaphorical torrent of intelligent lyricism which starts to develop a more angry and urgent feel, which really starts to attract your attention.

3. Millennium ft Melanin 9 & Crown Nectar [Triple Darkness] (prod Beat Butcha) – This track sees the first dark twist in the mixtape, with an introduction consisting of more scratching and a dark sinister beat, with lyrics seemingly comprised from real life experiences with a metaphorical angry twist, which sees Cyrus and co delve deeper into complex lyricism and high tempo flows …. overall an easy listening track, but requires a quick mind set and more than one listen to truly appreciate the lyricism involved, however being honest, we wanted to hear more from this track and felt some of the scratching sections could have been minimised to allow us to hear a bit more of the immense lyricism involved.

4. Bloodhounds ft Melanin 9 & Crown Nectar [Triple Darkness] (prod 7th Dan)- Following the previous track we were really pleased to hear this track kick in with a really simplistic beat, with gentle melodies bouncing about in the background, with a high energy flow and lyrics to leave your mind screaming for a break! Even the hook leaves you scrabbling to catch up with the wordplay, so far this is proving to be an intense mixtape !

5. The hammered bracelet ft Melanin 9 – We really liked how this track kicked in with an old school movie style intro, which then kicked in with a slightly less intense flow and more philosophical orientation to the lyrics, coupled with the awesome lyrical styles of Melanin 9 once again, we were by this point still astounded by the fact that although there had been no major switches to the style of any of the tracks and the flows were all very similar, we were still encapsulated by every word and disappointed as the track came to an end, at this point we are realising that this mixtape is going to be BIG !!

6. 1000 daggers (prod Diplimat) -This track shows Cyrus go it alone again and With an opening lyric of “take an MC and break him in 3″ to be honest we were slightly bemoaning the scratch intro once again, but all forgiven when what we thought to be some of the best lyricism thus far broke in. The flow so far hasn’t appeared to change at all, but “if it aint broke, dont fix it” definitely applies here. The only complaint here was that this was a short track only comprising of 1:47, but if Cyrus was going for quality over quantity then this track epitomizes that sentiment. perfectly.

7. Robin hood theory freestyle (prod Endemic) – For this number we thought we would keep the analysis simple …… Hot beat + awesome lyrics + Cyrus breezing through bar after bar = FIRE!

8. Captivity’s tear – This track really refreshes your interest with a more sombre feel to it, which is initially created by a simple low dynamic beat with a gentle acoustic melody accompanying it behind, Cyrus really manages to compliment these productive touches with lyrics that allow you to feel the mood and pain that is being put across to you. A nice switch up which continues the quality we have heard so far.

9. Lion’s den (prod Jon Phonics) – This is one track we already knew alot about, not only have we had it locked as our featured video track for the past couple of weeks, when interviewed Cyrus labelled this as one of his favourite tracks, and to be honest we second that. Everything about this track seems to sum Cyrus up, as we see a nice simple easy listening beat, which Cyrus uses as a tool to flow lyrics which tell tales of which he can relate to, and while this track is fashioned in a story telling manner Cyrus resists the temptation to keep the lyrics simple and monotonous and adds his own intelligent brand of lyric to the track …. definitely a favourite of ours.

10. Feathers of Tahiti ft Melanin 9 – With the return of Melanin 9 sees the return of the high tempo and dark urgency, this track displayed some absolutely immense lyricism and i can honestly say i had my review of this track written in my head before it had finished, yet i still felt the urge to rewind and listen to it again back to back. This is the type of number that can only be appreciated once it is heard, and even then it needs a second listen to truly appreciate the wordplay, and with quick flashes of samples we heard in the beginning intro, it reminds you that this mixtape has drawn you completely into the world of Cyrus Malachi.

11. Redemption – Whether it was just a case of finding the previous track so immense or perhaps built expectations, we were fairly surprised to find ourselves agreeing that this track was fairly average. A simple beat with simple flowing lyrics which to be honest didn’t really excite us too much. While we have nothing in particular to say was bad about this track, we did hope that it wasn’t the beginning of a fade out which saw a mixtape that up to this point demanded our undivided attention , begin to allow us to wander off.

12. 7 plagues (prod Blastah beats) Again we didn’t find too much exciting about this track but began to get the feel that the earlier vibe was beginning to return, and to be honest we never felt like this track was supposed to have you going nuts but merely a track to sit and nod your head along to in appreciation and were not surprised to find ourselves agreeing that the lyricism had us focused on the track at hand and definitely shows that Cyrus Malachi is a lyricist which is far beyond average.

13. Politikin remix feat crown nectar & melanin 9[Triple Darkness] (prod 7th Dan) - For us this showed some of the earlier zest return and had us feeling that although we had feared that The Isis Papers may not end as strongly as it began, our fears were completely unfounded and that we perhaps should not worry. Again a very simplistic head nodding beat which sees you tune your ears into some more mind mangling lyrics.

14. Hood Novelists ft Melanin 9 & Njeri Earth - This track really showed that the mixtape was going to finish on a strong note, with sinister yet diverse lyricism that completely reignites everything that you have previously heard on The Isis Papers, and with the addition of the female lyrical stylings of Detroit talent Njeri Earth, this track really gives you a feel for the depth of Cyrus Malachi’s creativity and vision.

15. Hell’s Gate ft Melanin 9 & Crown Nectar [Triple Darkness] – The finale to The Isis papers, leaves the listener with a dark sinister beat once more and lyrics which seem to be (perhaps subconsciously) trying to hammer home the message of the street negatives and traumas which exist behind doors that are closed to many . Hell’s gates is a track that is simplistic in its style yet one that is more than worthy to be placed as the finale to a mixtape that can only be described as brilliant.

Overall conclusion :

This is the part where we remove our headphones, and begin to put aside our own personal opinions on how much we like a particular artist and begin the meticulous post mortem, as we look over our dissection of the artist in question’s work.

What may surprise many is that for an artist of such lyrical complexity and depth, Cyrus Malachi and his offering of ’The Isis Papers’ becomes increasingly simple to sum up the more you hear it. The words ” Brilliant” and at times even “genius” seem more than fitting when describing Cyrus Malachi and his work. At times we almost telepathically seemed to be agreeing that if this is what Cyrus Malachi can show you on a mixtape, then what is his full Album ‘Ancient Future’ going to reveal. If you were to point any negativity towards ‘The Isis Papers’ then you would perhaps note that sometimes the seemingly unnecessary use of scratching can become an irritation and the fact that there is no real switch in flow at any point could be misinterpreted as monotonous. However when making these points you then realise that this is a mixtape, and seemingly endless flows and cuts, scratches and samples are the true essence of a mixtape.

In conclusion, ‘The Isis Papers’ arrived on my Ipod with the intention of staying there for as long as it took to listen to and digest and review, and has now become an integral part of my most listened to playlists, and will be staying there at least until ‘Ancient Future’ is uploaded onto it! In our opinion Cyrus Malachi takes the entire essence of UK Hip Hop, chews it up and regurgitates it in a form that becomes more appealing to true Hip Hop fans of any nationality than the “Artists” producing watered down Hip Hop elements which can fall under no category other than Pop packaged as Hip Hop. Cyrus Malachi draws from his real life experiences and his real life surroundings to produce real Hip Hop.

Finebeats Rating for ‘ The Isis Papers’ 5/5

For the Lil Wayne fans currently in despair at the New Orleans rappers current incarceration and the seemingly endless wait for the fourth release in the ‘Carter’ series, there has been a ray of light shone upon them from Young Money CEO and co-manager to Lil Wanyne Cortez Bryant.

According to Bryant he will be releasing an EP of all new Wayne Material which will be under the expected title of ‘ I’m not a human being’, which will drop on Wayne’ s birthday.

Reports from Vibe, show Bryant confirming this,

“I’m putting out a [Wayne] album called I’m Not A Human Being and I’ll probably drop it on his birthday, September 27″, Bryant states. But Bryant has also made it clear that it will be up to the fans to keep tabs on the situation as there will be no promotional push for the album and initially it won’t even be on hard copy until christmas, “We not about to roll out no three month set up,” Bryant explains. “I’m not even putting it out in stores. We just gonna put it out virally and maybe package it up for Christmas. Give ‘em a hard copy later for fan appreciation.”

As soon as any further information becomes available we will update.

It is reported that the fan jumped on stage during 50 Cent’s performance of ‘Ayo Technology’ and attempted to grab hold of 50 Cent, resulting in security rapidly moving in on the fan and giving him some pretty rough treatment, and Lloyd Banks is also seen punching the fan for his actions.

The performance then continued as scheduled and no further disturbances were reported throughout the evening.

The G-Unit millionaire that is 50 Cent celebrated his birthday and according to reports he was planning on taking it easy, and taking the chance to relax and spend out on those closest to him.

The rapper is preparing to tour Brazil and stated that he would be using his birthday as an opportunity to relax and do something nice for other people and his Grandparents in particular.

“It’s more fun for me to just not have to do anything and turn the phone off,” 50 explained to DJ Whoo Kid on G-Unit Radio. “When my birthday comes, instead of buying stuff for myself, I’ll buy stuff for them and wait until the occasion comes to give it to them.”

Over recent years 50 Cent has not only become very wealthy through his own music career but has become known as a very successful businessman, earning him millions. Most noticeable with the success of his G-Unit label, G-Unit radio, G-Unit clothing and his stake in Vitaminwater which is reported to have earned him around $100 Million when Coca Cola purchased the company in 2007.

When speaking on the luxuries and material things in life 50 Cent stated,

“I got what I want, when you achieve more than you anticipate and if you’re blessed with having a long enough career, you’ll get over a lot of different things. And I think we are all conditioned to want things we don’t need. After you acquire them and you get comfortable with them, you realize, you never really needed that stuff.”

Canadian rap star Drake has announced that he has cancelled his European tour dates due to a family emergency.

Allhiphop.com reports that the cancellations arose due to a problem with his mother, who needed surgery and therefore made the cancellations unavoidable.

“Despite my best hopes, it is apparent that my mother will need surgery earlier than anticipated. In light of this news, I have made the difficult decision to cancel my European tour in order to support her during her recovery, just as she supported me through the years,” Drake said in a statement. “I cannot thank my European fans enough and look forward to performing abroad soon. I ask everyone to please respect my family’s privacy during this time.”

However Drake has not left his European fans high and dry as he has tentatively rescheduled his Paris,Amsterdam and London shows for November this year, and has stated that tickets bought will be honoured for the rescheduled events.

We will update as soon as any further information becomes available.
