We caught up with Cyrus Malachi to discuss these projects and the Hip Hop industry in general, also be sure to check out our official review of ‘The Isis Papers’ coming real real soon . This is what Cyrus Malachi had to say ……………

Finebeats : Your music details your experiences growing up in a tough environment, was this the inspiration behind your beginnings in music or did the music serve as an outlet to express your life experiences?

CM: To be honest probably a bit of both, growing up in Hackney definitely inspired me to write, depicting the things ive done and seen, it was also a powerful inspiration coupled with my love of reading which led me to an interest in history and sociological issues, this gave me a deeper window into the bigger reasons for our suffering in poverty stricken areas like Hackney and allowed me to make sense of the racial injustices we’d face growing up, but also music and writing lyrics was a brilliant tool for my self expression and acted as an outlet for emotion…

Finebeats :   Your debut Solo Album is on the horizon for this year, what can you tell us about ‘Ancient Future’ ?

CM : Ancient Future is my soul laid bare theres joints on there that are incredibly personal, which will allow any of my fans or followers of the music Ive been involved in to see more in to my life and certain experiences that shaped the being i am, as well as that its signature Cyrus Malachi, very vivid lyricism,i tried to reach my pinnacle of writing, some neck breaking joints, always pure never diluted, but maybe more digestible, overall an Album im very proud of and a piece of work i feel is the embodiment of authentic Hip hop.

Finebeats : Who were your biggest inspirations musically,  growing up ?

CM: . My biggest influences growng up musically were, Wu Tang Clan, Nas, Tragedy Khadafi, Boot Camp Clik, Rass Kass, Tupac, Biggie Smalls, Epmd, Redman, Def Squad, Suns of Man, Mobb Deep, Big Pun, Gangstarr, Tribe called Quest, The Roots, the list goes on and on…

Finebeats : Who for you is really doing the business in the UK Hip Hop scene ?

CM : For me in UK Hip Hop right now, id say Melanin 9, Endemic, Iron Braydz, 9 Planets, Obba Suppa, Jon Phonics, Chester P, skinnyman, Jehst, Black the ripper, Ramson Badbones, Kal Sereousz, Klashnekoff, Skriblah, Moorish Delta 7, Kyza Smirnoff, A Bomb, Cappo, Skandal, Beat Butcha, Chemo, Anatomy to name a few…

Finebeats: The UK Hip Hop scene has moved from strength to strength in recent years, do you see this as something that is set to continue or in your opinion do you feel the UK industry has peaked ?

CM: Well the UK industry is skyrocketing you only have to look at the success of NDubz, Dizzie Rascal and Chipmunk to see that, but in terms of what i would class real Hip hop, no way unless the Machine decides to take a risk and pump the truckloads of money it does into artists like that into artists like me until that happens its gonna be very difficult for grass roots artists to make a good living of this..

Finebeats: A lot of pop artists have emerged in recent times who place themselves under the Hip Hop bracket, do you feel that UK artists can still produce ‘Real Hip Hop’ in the commercial sector, or do you feel that the underground artists are the only individuals currently producing music using the true foundations of Hip Hop ?

CM: Listen man truth is truth and none of this music in the mainstream today UK or US is real HIP HOP it just aint and anybody who has the slightest clue about the heritage of this beautiful art form or the modern day makers of it will know that commercial stuff is a manufactured , pre packaged, ultra diluted, soulless, warped, waste product of Hip hop

Finebeats: With ‘Ancient Future’ on it’s way, do you have any other projects in the pipeline ?

CM: Well that would be revealing my next move, and a true warrior never does that, but beleive i got next.

Finebeats: What is your favourite track of yours to date ?

CM: To date going by what ive done prior to my upcoming release, i would say Lions Den as i feel its a powerful display of wordplay and lyricism and a very honest and heart wrenching portrayal of the street and its many pitfalls.

Finebeats : Are there any artists in particular that you would like to work with in the future ?

CM: In the Future for sure man, i’d love to work with Chester P, Klashnekoff, Malik, Obba supa, Black the Ripper, Jay Electronica, Roc Marciano, Little Eto, Sean Price, The Wisemen, Killah Priest, Shabazz the Disciple, Hell Razah, vinnie Paz, Royce 5′9, The Entire Wu Tang Clan, Erykah Badu, Gill Scott, Blue Rasberry, Tekitha, The Roots and many many more…

Finebeats: Who in your opinion do you think we should be keeping our eye out for in the UK Scene ?

CM: Keep an eye out for Melanin 9 already a prolific solo Emcee extremely gifted, he has his debut album coming soon and beleive me its off the chain, also phoenix the icefire a very vibrant emcee with a lot of energy and heart he has an debut album coming soon too, Check for Iron Braydz a very talented beatsmith and emcee who has an album on the way, and of course look out for Endemic a visionary and sick producer/AnR, a man on a mission, someone not afraid to travedl to unchartered waters and make power moves.

Finebeats: Do you have any live performances coming up that we should know about ?

CM: Live performances look out for Isis Papers Instore at OMG records in Nottingham, im performing at Jon Phonics Half Past Calm album launch 9th July and i should have a set at one of the upcoming EOW shows, and a lot more to come…
