Stealf Diaries : “I Am Stealf” – The Preparation.

Posted by Tom On April - 19 - 2011

Ok so this week marks a month of our merciless harassment of UK production mastermind Stealf, and with the “I am Stealf” album creeping closer and a number of collaborations and production appearances thrown in for good measure, now is definitely not a time to start sleeping on a true UK Genius who we associate with the “Not if but when …” tag when foreseeing his involvement in the fabric of UK Hip Hop. Read on as the Stealf story gathers more momentum.

First on the agenda was Stealf’s continued involvement with “The Artful Dodgers” release from U.S Rapper Solomon, a project of which we have been following since our first diary session with Stealf,

“So far I’ve had a couple of tracks come back mixed and mastered. The mastering still needs some work though. The vocals sound really nice, but my beats have had all the dynamics sucked out of them. The drums are lacking the punch they had in the pre-master mixes and that’s really letting them down. I’ll see how the others come back sounding and if need be, I’ll have to go and remix the beats and give the drums a boost to compensate. Right now though it’s proving to be a bit of  a waiting game while the mastering engineer does his work. The track that features Sha Stimuli and Chaundon is still to be recorded, but once that’s done, all the production work is complete and it’s just a case of getting the mixing and mastering right”.

We have been getting a bit impatient lately about the upcoming album release “I am Stealf” and wanted to find out if there has been any progress in terms of  a solid release date or promotion for the upcoming offering and Stealf decided to pacify our impatience and had a few words for us on the upcoming release,

“The promo for the album won’t start untill we have set a release date, so all we’re doing at the moment is mentioning it on the social networks and letting people know it’s coming. Once the release date has been set, we can start to really push it” Stealf Stated. “The artwork is also next on the “To Do” list. As soon as that’s done we can get the promo artwork done too. It’s all coming together nicely, slowly, but nicely.”

Stealf also explained his thoughts and hopes for the upcoming release,

“I’m really looking forward to hearing what people think of this project. It’s something different. It’s got all the elements of old skool hip hop with a slight twist. The subject matter and the beats together make for a really interesting album and I’m looking forward to getting some feedback on this one.”

With an increasingly busy schedule emerging, we got an idea of what was on the Stealf Horizon,

“Once the Artful Dodgers release is out there, I’ve got an EP with Jackitdown Brown coming out, then I start work on an album with my artist Clas-Sick. That’s gonna be something for the hip hop heads. I’m also executive producing Parv’s debut album. We started work on that back in December and it’s had to be put on the back burner for a minute, but we’re back on that now too”.

Whilst on the topic we decided to catch up with what has been happening with Stealf’s  own artists,

“Parv’s also just dropped a video for his track Pot Of Gold which features Sir Mic and Miss Culley. This is a lil taste of what to expect from Parv, as well as the 2 tracks he has on my album.”

Before letting Stealf sign off we wanted to grab some final words about the upcoming album,

“I Am Stealf is still on target for May 23rd release. Like The Artful Dodgers LP, It’s still in mastering. It’s been mastered three times now and it’s really coming together. I’m exceptionally proud of this album. It really shows what some of the unsigned and underground talent can do when mixed with some big names and sonically it’s not like a hip hop album people whould’ve heard before, and especially from a UK hip hop artist too.”

Loop G And Harri Bakes – A Look To The UK’s Future.

Posted by Tom On April - 18 - 2011

With today’s saturation of the UK Hip Hop Industry it’s rare that we can come across a talent that is just a raw gem waiting to be polished and shine bright for all in the industry to see, but with the emergence of a duo that are starting to get a foothold in todays industry, it is looking increasingly likely that something special is on the brink of happening.

Trey Mukwaya (Loop Genius) and Harrison Baker (Harri Bakes) met in 2005 – Trey originally from Uganda and Harrison from the southeast. After moving to the UK, Trey was well aware that music was his preferred direction. Similarly, Harrison craved a new creative outlet and sought this through the writing of songs. Their meeting was mobilised through a mutual desire to create. Trey, keen to learn the processes of production, occupied both college studios and sparse homemade affairs to hone his talents. He began to seek feedback from Harrison and this led to collaboratively recorded efforts between the pair. What started out as a hobby was beginning to move towards something more serious. In 2007, through a combined investment, The Bakery was funded. The Bakery would be the home to GCripes (GCBB – GCripes Bakery Boy), a home studio that housed all the equipment needed to produce, write, record, mix and master all records. GCBB use The Bakery to develop local artists as well as their own sound. 6 years after meeting Trey and Harrison seek to continue their progression and development, establishing a sound that achieves a sense of difference and limitlessness allowed through 100% creative control.

DJ Slademan is steadily gaining a reputation as Peterborough’s hardest working DJ and producer with a release list to prove it. Last year saw him complete the Skriblah DanGogh ‘Sketches’ Mixtape (Terra Firma), Remus ‘The Uprising’ Mixtape (Taskforce), Knowledge Magazine’s ‘Hip Hop Don’t Stop’ Mixtape, Guest mixes for BBC 1Xtra (Featured on the Charlie Sloth show) ‘Back From The Trenches’ mixtape as well as numerous guest slots on Unique FM, all this while working on singles, EP’s and album material with some of the finest the UK has to offer.

For the last decade, Dj Slademan has maintained DJ residencies up and down the UK, but 2008 saw his focus shift to his untapped production talent, developing his sound and fine tuning his art form. With a relocation to London in full flight this year, he’s somebody to keep an eye on as it is clear his production is ripe for placement on any number of anticipated albums coming out this year whilst continuing to excite the street level fans with his mixtapes. His first project this year (Endangered Species) has been getting hugely encouraging feedback from fans in and out of the Hiphop scene and not surprisingly as it features a number of exclusives unheard to the world. The project is endorsed by and available exclusively at Suspect Packages.

With positive feedback from the likes of American journalist Ryon Danyell, Knowledge Magazine, UK All Day and Rago Magazine, as well as being championed by all of your favourite UK rappers, DJ Slademan is making some serious moves. Here is one mixtape DJ and producer that you need to keep on! Real music might be in danger, but everything is going to be okay as long as DJ Slademan is behind the one’s and two’s! For those of you that don’t know, B.A (Bad Attitude) is a talented North London MC that is causing a stir on the underground. B.A started writing music at the age of eleven as a hobby, penning lyrics about his life and his experiences after being inspired by the likes of 2Pac, Biggie & The Heartless Crew. As his passion for music grew stronger B.A started writing down sixteen bar freestyles and then started spitting to crowds at school. The response was positive and everyone began to see the potential of an artist that could make noise in an era when Grime and UK Rap was starting to get signed by major labels.
It was at this time that B.A started to take his music very serious and he soon progressed to join the infamous G.S.M crew which led to him rocking the microphone on London radio stations such as Heat 96.6FM, Boostie FM and Axe FM. There was no doubting that B.A was making noise and it wasn’t long before B.A started working with some of the UK’s most respected names. His next move was to release the superb ‘Bound 2 Blow’ mixtape which featured Bashy, Chipmunk, DJ Ironik, Big Narstie and many more. This was the release that would solidify B.A as a name to look out for in the UK game.
After a short break to planning his next movements and building his own recording studio B.A is back with a ten track release entitled ‘Talk About Me Volume One’. This is a free download release that UK Rap fans will cherish as it sees B.A on form alongside guests such as King Kash, Menace, S.K, Skeeze, Crow, Lil D as well as some killer production from various producers including well known Grime producer Viler Dee.  ’Talk About Me Volume Two’ is also due for release soon too and features B.A alongside Flirta D, Lady Leeshur, Blax, Jak Frost and many more. B.A isn’t stopping there though. he is also getting ready to launch his brand new mixtape called ‘Music Is My Wifey’. This is a release that will feature some killer tracks from one of North Weezy’s favourite artists.

Stealf Diary Update: The Past Week And Beyond.

Posted by Tom On April - 12 - 2011

That time has come people when we catch up with UK production talent Stealf to see what has been going on and what we can get excited about.

First on our checklist was the upcoming LP “The Artful Dodgers” from U.S artist Solomon , we asked Stealf about the progress so far ,

“Right now the LP is still being mixed and mastered. This process can take a while though. It’ll probably go to and fro for a while until we’re happy it sounds as good as it can. I know how tricky this can be too, my album is on it’s third trip to the mastering studio. If there’s one stage worth taking your time on, it’s the final mix and master.”
