Birthm4rk - My Life My Crimes My Cry's (Mixtape) & Tell Me Why Feat. Queen.T (Music Video)

There is no doubting that the West Midlands is a hot spot for urban talent. With a string of solid names making some serious waves here is another name that you should be aware of and be on the look out for.  For those that don’t know, let us introduce to you to Birthm4rk, a Wolverhampton rapper destined for big things.

Birthma4rk is the leading force behind his own music and his imprint Law Recordings, as well as directing his own music videos, creating beats, designing clothes and being an all around urban savvy entrepreneur!

The story began over a decade ago when he first picked up the pen and started rhymes with the well-respected crew Deep Soulz who went on to win the 2004 Urban Voice ‘Best Hip Hop Act Award’. From there he had  the perfect launch pad to jump off with a solo career and before long Birthm4rk’s skills and songs soon got recognition from the likes of BBC 1Xtra with Birthm4rk being a finalist in an MC competition, as well as support from Dream Team on BBC Radio 1, plays on Galaxy FM and numerous pirate & internet radio stations.

Birthma4rk is also no stranger to rocking crowds live with a string of superb events under his belt including opening up for reggae superstar Sean Paul with DJ Semtex, rocking the mic with UK Garage legend DJ Principal at Global Gathering in 2000 and becoming a resident MC at Sidewinder’s ‘Highflyer’ Under 18′s nights. Birthm4rk also received TV airplay of his music video ‘My Letter To Santa Claus’ on BBC West Midlands and last year he got to the Quarter Finals of ‘Live Unsigned’.

Now with a string of solid releases and music videos in his discography, Birthm4rk now drops his second fifteen track mixtape entitled ‘My Life My Crimes My Crys’ which is a must for any discerning Hip-Hop and UK Urban music fan. Ram packed full of underground hits  this is already making noise with a selected few DJ’s and leading blogs/websites. Featuring a bunch of talented Midlands artists and production from Mr. G, J’Man, 4th Lord (S-Squad) and Jimmy Chambers,  the mixtape is mixed to perfection by Wolverhampton legend DJ Bullet aka Bullet Movements.

Born and raised in Chatham, Kent, S.Kalibre is no new-comer to the rap game. After getting into Hip-Hop at an early age he was soon influenced by the sounds of Ice-T, Krs-One, NWA, Public Enemy and other acts around this time. Being exposed to music from such a young age it wasn’t long before he started scripting rhymes. In 1999 S Kalibre met up with local producer Mike S (Slapupmill) 1999 and joined a crew called UTI (Under The Influence). The crew recorded a collection of songs which never actually saw the light of day due to financing and members relocating to other parts of the country. It was at this point Mike S & S.Kalibre formed the two man team called Hard Livin.

Hard Livin’ started doing shows all over the UK and began collaborating with other artists. They were picked up by record label called Sin Nombre and a distribution deal with Universal followed. They enjoyed various media support including plays of their promotional video ‘Oh Girl’ on TV, reviews in newspapers and magazines, as well as radio play.

Now at the age of 28, S.Kalibre is an accomplished UK artist who has worked with a host of artists from all over the UK and USA including Blade, Skinnyman, Q Unique, Daz Dillinger, Sabotage Yo Style, Scoob Rock, Junior Disprol and up and coming artists like Apocraphe, Genesis Elijah, Syndrome, Dap C, Bury Crew, Conflix, Troy Scalpels, Manage, CLG, DX, Armshouse, Baron Samedi, Natty, Wordperfect, Humark D Gritty, Stig of the Dump, Redeye, Dr Syntax, Frisko Dan, Stag P, Ironbridge and many more.

S.Kalibre has also shared stages with the likes of De La Soul, Blade, Skinnyman, Phi Life Cypher, Kashmere, Jehst and many many more. S.Kalibre is currently in the studio with producer Slapupmill working on his second mixtape and street album and working on soundtracks for up & coming cutting edge urban dramas and short films.

‘Say Peace’ is S.Kalibre’s brand new single which features Kashmere, Sonny Jim, D Gritty & Genesis Elijah and is produced by Slapupmill. This track is already causing a stir in the world of UK Hip-Hop and with some excellent remixes too from the likes of Soul Theory, Krate Krusaders & Charlie Phillips, this track is now set to do big things. Make sure you check this track and support! Support real UK talent. support S.Kalibre.

Stealf – The Mixing Bowl – Reviewed

Posted by Tom On June - 20 - 2011

Ok so usually when u hear that someone is knocking out a FREE set of tracks for your listening pleasure amid the first reactions of being grateful and pleased that it’s free, you also begin to think about the first time you were told “If it seems too good to be true it probably is” …. however this doesn’t apply here.

This 9 track banger is absolute FIRE and contains something for absolutely everyone, the only way you are not going to feel this is if you have no love of Hip Hop whatsoever.

This is a complete encapsulation of everything Hip Hop should be,  the best in the business doing their thing with Stealf at the wheel driving some thumping beats adding his unique twist on such classics.

It is a composition of tracks of which everyone will have a favorite and is the perfect companion for anyone who has a musical device to turn up loud !!

With all the heavy hitters of the hip hop world on “The Mixing Bowl” it seems a given that this was going to work, but there is a sense of responsibility with such  material and a great pressure to do each track justice when you have such names as Game, Joe Budden, Jim Jones, Lil Wayne, Kayne West and Jay Z to name but a few, featured on this epic compilation of Stealf remixes.

Our personal favorites out of this bunch have to be “The Announcing of a classic” – Jay-Z and Kanye West and “Hello West Coast” – Game, Dr. Dre & Ice Cube, these tracks will take you back to the good old days of Hip Hop and will show you how a remix can revive the memories of classic tracks, with a modern twist that makes you want to bump out these beats all over again.

“The Mixing Bowl” is an absolute banger that you need to have on your tracklist, we cant get enough of this and it seems to go harder every time you listen to it…… this a 10/10 composition of the best by the best …. hats off to Stealf he has done it again.

“The Mixing Bowl” Track List.

All I Need – Jay Z
Weatherman – Jim Jones, Lil Wayne & Stack Bundles
The Future – Joe Budden & Game
Pure Criminology – Raekwon & Ghostface
2 Words – Mos Def, Kanye West & Freeway
It’s All About Hawaii – Biggie, P. Diddy & Lil Kim

Stealf’s Soul Sundays

Posted by Stealf On June - 12 - 2011

Every month or so, I’ve thought I’ll drop a soul sampled beat for you all. As the name would suggest, it’ll be on a sunday, which also helps with the alliteration of the title. So to kick off, here’s the first beat I ever made using a sped-up soul sample.

I won’t be letting on what the samples are, but if you think you know, then drop a comment. Here we go then, the first Stealf Soul Sunday kicks off with “What A Difference Living Can Make”

Clas-Sick “Killer MC” Official Review.

Posted by Tom On May - 29 - 2011
The second single from Stealf's "I Am Stealf" album

Killer MC feat. Clas-Sick

You wont have to look too far back to see what we thought of this track when we reviewed the “I am Stealf” album featuring this track.

But now that “Killer MC” has been released as a single, it has been getting a lot of love amongst the true hip hop fan base. We decided to re visit this track as a single, to try and break down exactly why this track is smashing it right now.

The first thing you instantly notice is the beat, which jumps straight into life without any need for any form of tip-toe introduction, it instantly sets the tone with a real sense of urgency and slight sinisterness which just gives it an edge that you can only feel not describe.

Vocally the track is very well presented  and flows nicely, with Clas-Sick paying obvious attention to flow and delivery and ensuring every syllable sits in its place. The lyrics are precise and well thought out, showing a level of intelligence, which is really refreshing to see as it would have been far too easy for Clas-Sick to hide behind his good flows, and it all comes together with a hook that is definitely catchy and gives the track its feel.

For us this was one of the stand out tracks on the “i am stealf” album and now it is being acclaimed by UK’s Hip Hop following as a track which is destined to see Clas-sick stamp his name on the UK scene and see Stealf tick another box on his rapidly growing C.V .

For those that have been hiking across the Gobi Desert or exploring the furthest regions of our solar system, and haven’t heard this track, it also comes with a nice to the point video, to make sure that you cannot miss this absolute banger. Please click below for the full video.

“An Artist Years in the making”, is usually the phrase used when describing the new UK Hip Hop mastermind Mr Flix, and he is now set to debut alongside UK beat genius Stealf, on a 5 track EP destined to make waves on the Hip Hop Scene.

Mr Flix started life on the battle scene, using his fast thinking and extensive vocabulary to draw attention to his talents, and quickly began to understand the fundamentals of what made authentic yet unique Hip Hop material. Refusing to be drawn into the usual traps of attempting to turn naivety into recorded tracks, Flix decided to step back and develop his own skills.  As an artist that craves perfection he refused to spend his “learning” years knocking out sub standard music, and instead worked with his long time friend and producer (Karnage) constantly to develop his sound and understanding of each beat, in an old quote which sums him up perfectly Flix  states ” I would rather only ever make one track and make it ill, than make a thousand s**t ones” . Thankfully we now know that there will be at least 5 tracks on their way in the near future, as “Conceptualized Deceit” will see Mr Flix claim his much overdue debut, alongside one of the hottest production properties in the UK , Stealf.

There is no confirmed release date for this EP as of yet but is expected to be announced soon.

“Working on this EP had two major benefits over other EPs. Firstly, working with a new artist and producing their first ever release is a big deal, so for Flix to come to me for his first project was flattering and exciting, and secondly, because it’s his first project, there’s the hunger there that you can’t replace or imitate. That hunger and ambition is infectious too. Overall, it’s an EP we can both be proud of.” - Stealf
