After increasing interest and positive reviews for his debut CD ‘A Hero And A Villain VOL.1’ and the 2009 Mixtape ‘Street Magic VOL.1’, the self proclaimed hero and a villain (Ruinz Ason) once again joins forces with his younger sibling/producer J-Flames to ignite the ears of listeners with a colourful epic movie adventure entitled “Hoodstarz and Villains”. The album is presented by American DJ Technic also known as Zackery Walls, known for his popular weekly podcasts entitled “Hoodstarz.” He currently hosts a show along side legendary DJ Funk Master Flex on New York’s Hot 97 Radio station; DJ Technic, Ruinz Ason And J-Flames collate extensively to bring us “Hoodstarz And Villainz” which also features guest appearances from Kay Young, Scarz and the US rapper Chief Wakil. It includes the popular tracks ‘Call Me Ruinz Ason’ which received a high appraisal plus extensive play time on Choice FM & 1xtra, and the club banger ‘Hello London’ which was featured and released on popular US music website rnbexclusive.com with downloads exceeding 2,000.
Born and bread in South-East London, Ruinz Ason ,currently 24, began rapping, writing and performing from the age of 11. An interesting fact about Ruinz is that he didn’t begin his career by battling other rappers or writing 16 bar verses but instead chose to write full-length songs around subjects that were based on stories and concepts, something more commonly associated with singers more so than rappers. With his love for performing and a distinctive energetic stage presence, Ruinz has supported UK acts such as Ms Dynamite, Nathan, Donaeo and more. He names artists ranging from Prince, Van Hunt and Cold Play to Common, Fugees and OutKast as some of the people that have inspired his music.
The Album features all original music and focuses heavily on epic production and songs with strong concepts and memorable hooks. The sound across the album maintains a broad solid structure with J Flames frequently creating unique blends of sounds and samples, effortlessly fusing Hip Hop beats with various musical genres as vast as Classical and Jazz to Electro and Big Band sounds. This together with Ruinz Ason’s Unique Voice, flow, witty character and ability to create songs around different concepts, creates the well-balanced musical adventure that is “Hoodstarz And Villains”.
The mixtape is a prelude to his debut solo album “Ancient Future” (which is to be released in the autumn of this year) and brings harrowing street tales from his life and experiences growing up in Hackney. Malachi’s fellow triple darkness and orphans of Cush member, melanin 9, features heavily on the project.
No Cure Records in house DJ team of DJ Switch (current world dmc champion) & DJ Furious P (world dmc team champion) mix and scratch these classic tracks in superb style, bringing that real mixtape flavour that has become scarce in recent years.
