Soundcrash & The Doctor’s Orders are proud to present a meeting of two giants as Jurassic 5’s DJ Nu-Mark goes head to head with A Tribe Called Quest’s Ali Shaheed Muhammad in the Hip-Hop DJ battle to end all battles!

Recent Zulu Nation inductee Nu-Mark’s DJ sets have become infamous for his creativity and ingenuity. As a member of the legendary Jurassic 5 he graced the group with precision production and cutting edge stage routines. Best known for his production on the raw anthem “What’s Golden” such creativity only hinted at the visionary creativity Nu-Mark has explored since Jurassic 5’s breakup in 2006, which is incidentally the last time he has played in the UK. Today Nu-Mark experiments with children’s music toys and constructs full DJ sets around toys most people dispose of by the time their kids are old enough to read, and we’ll be able to see some of that on the night!

Sharing the bill with Nu-Mark is none other than A Tribe Called Quest DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad. An integral part of ATCQ’s iconic productions, Ali joined J-Dilla and Q-Tip in the collective The Ummah and later formed Lucy Pearl with Raphael Saadiq. With a resumé like that you’d think one would want to live off the inertia and lazy about, but Ali Shaheed decided to prove that he wasn’t just another Hip-Hop DJ and published his solo album in which he was able to explore more of his music abilities and influences.

The 26 year old Artist Problem aka Jason Martin is also known for being a writer, producer, engineer, song arranger and father. Problem was born in Germany, raised in Compton. His musical inspirations are Eminem, everything under the NWA tree, Lil Wayne, Isley brothers, Prince, Aaliyah, R.Kelly, The Temptations, Dj Quik, The Jacksons & The group DeBarge.

His entry into the industry was writing a verse for a producer & friend Terrace Martin, for a song called “Be thankful”, featured on Snoop Dogg’s compilation album “The Big Squeeze”. The track garnered praise from notable artist such as Nas & Talib Kweli amongst others. Problem began recording records with recognized artist such as Daz, Kurupt, Snoop Dogg, & Dj Quik. Problem’s first big break was when Snoop Dogg heard a record which was also produced by Terrace Martin called “Neva Hafta To Wurry About That”. He went on to write three records on Snoop Dogg’s “Ego Trippin” LP.

CAFE JASS is a jazz hip-hop concept album dreamt up by Canadian emcee iLLvibe after he and L.S. met DowntownSoul producer Beat Thief whilst on a guerilla tour of Europe in 2010. Melding a live jazz ambience, Beat Thief's trademark soul-infused hip-hop sound, and mature rhymes from the two indie hip-hop vets, this is a cohesive album for the discerning listener.

With features on the album including US emcees Kwote1 (Chicago) and Yello Blac (Cali), as well as Canada's Mer and Rk ParX, not to mention DowntownSoul affiliates Non Applicable and Sam Steele, this is truly an international affair, with recording begun in London and since completed in Toronto and Hong Kong. Taking the idea of a live night at the vibrant but run-down Cafe Jass, the songs have an organic feel, interspersed with comedic snippets from a legendary Richard Pryor show.

iLLvibe is a Canadian emcee who was nominated for the Toronto Independent Music Awards' Best Rap Act in 2010, off the back of his "Sex, Love & Hip-Hop" album, and performances on the same bill as the likes of Pharoahe Monch, Pete Rock, Obie Trice, Slaughterhouse, Method Man, Lloyd Banks, Busta Rhymes and even Sean Paul. Having also worked with established artists such as Slakah the Beatchild and soul singer Lani Billard, Vibe has coordinated two tours, the WeAllKings tour of East Canada, and then Hip-Hop Revolution tour of Europe alongside L.S. Known for his prodigious work ethic, Cafe Jass represents Vibe's fourth full release since the beginning of 2011, following "In the Streets of iLLydelfya", "Just Around the Corner" and the well-received "Blunts & Roses". "Last Song" is his 19th video for a released track.

L.S. is a Canadian hip-hop artist, community activist and former professional snow-boarder. Releasing "All in Time" back in 2006, followed by 2008's seminal "In This Life", he has since spent time living in New Zealand and, alongside iLLvibe, launched the "Join the Hip-Hop Revolution" tour in 2010, independently touring the UK, Belgium, Holland and France. Most recently L.S. has turned his hand to his local community in Barrie, Ontario, leading the local "Occupy" movement and holding talks with the town's Mayor to reengage the youth generation, as well as running local artistry centre Unity Market & Studios.

Beat Thief is a London-based hip-hop and soul producer whose previous work includes full-length releases with Wolftown Records' Manny Moscow ("Russian R3volution" and "The Fusion"), and Poetic Pilgrimage ("Star Women"), as well as work with Jay Diamond, OC Jigga, River Nelson and Ethneezy among others. Alongside a forthcoming collaboration with Mohammed Yahya, this year he is also set to drop work with DowntownSoul's Non Applicable, and Senegalese emcee Diabolo; as well as executive producing River Nelson's sophomore album, due this Summer.

Avatar the Articulate – It Was Bitten [Free Album]

New York underground veteran emcee Avatar the Articulate pays homage to Nas's sophomore album It Was Written, in its entirety, with his self-produced remake, appropriately titled It Was Bitten.  Despite the satirically seeming title, Avatar's motivation for this release, accompanying his reverence to Nas, is to offer a new vantage point to the time-honored original, so that others can appreciate the concepts and issues addressed in his music.
